HISTORY OF FIT HAPPENS
Fit Happens Personal Training & Fitness Studio has been a mainstay in the community for several years with knowledgeable and friendlystaff to assist its members in attaining personal health and fitnessgoals. Through the years it has grown and evolved to fit the needs of the community. It has grown from a small 2,100 square foot studio in Johnstown, to 6,800 Square feet at another Johnstown location, to currently to a 14,600 square foot state-of-the-art fitness center behind the Ames Plaza in Gloversville.General Manager Janet Duesler said Fit Happens started in a one room studio on Route 30A in Johnstown as a fitness studio for people who wanted training."It wasn't a full gym, it was for people who wanted to stay in shape and stay active. So, we had a few pieces of equipment used to help people stayin shape and stay active," Duesler said. She said Fit Happens' original clientele wanted to ski and play golf andwere in their forties and fifties. There was nothing in this area,Duesler said."But, we had people coming in who asked 'we don't need a trainer butcan we use your equipment?' So we saw the value in getting more exercise equipment and offering memberships and not just training," Duesler said.Consequently, Fit Happens moved to the original Leather Shop on 338 North Comrie Ave. to accommodate more equipment and more members adding space within the building as they went.Duesler said they had three times the space than they had in their originalbuilding, but shortly outgrew that expanding into the rest of thebuilding."We expanded to two more rooms which took us only three years," Duesler said."We now have all kinds of people from young to old. They realize the benefit of staying in shape. And they get it from the news and from the doctors. They are our greatest advertisers,"
Duesler said. Fit Happens now has three different workout areas and have doubled their exercise equipment adding a basketball half court, a womens' only exercise room, spinning and extra aerobic classes.Fitness classes include Pilates, yoga, kickboxing, booty ballet, corefusion and more from qualified instructors. A big attraction is their new 16X10 Cardio Theatre in which members can watch their favorite programs while they work out.Fit Happens also offers different community-based classes within the gym at discounted prices for their members such as Weight For Me! offered by the Community
Health Center and Ullman Flight School training."We have kids come in who just want to play basketball here," Duesler said. From humble beginnings as a one room training studio to a full-range fitness center attracting
people with different needs, Fit Happens has grown to accommodate a growing and diverse membership with expanded programs and activities."We strive to be the only physical fitness center that has it all,"Duesler said.
