Aerobic Classes

Cardiovascular - Calorie Burning Class Descriptions


Impact & Intensity ( I-2 ) -An intensive cardiovascular workout with choreographed sequences.High impact movements and possible use of jump rope. Participants may modify moves, if necessary. Final 15-20 minute sculpt/tone segment may include light resistance equipment. (NO STEP)

Low Burn - Low impact choreographed sequences for endurance training and cardiovascular burn. Instructors may choose to incorporate intervals of sculpt/tone training using light resistance equipment, or may save the resistance training for the end. (NO STEP)

Steppin' -A high-energy workout with choreography designed to meet participant needs. May incorporate interval training (periods of high energy alternated with low intensity sequences), and/or segments of sculpt/tone resistance training (with a variety of optional toning equipment) in an interval, or concluding format. Participants may modify moves or eliminate the step all together! All classes will include a warm up & cool down.

Total KnockOut Workout (TKO) -A knockout workout utilizing high intensity kicks, punches, blocks and drills designed to challenge all fitness levels! May conclude with a 15-20 minute sculpt/tone segment. Optional use of light resistance equipment/modifications offered. (NO STEP). Advanced (ADV) may include jump rope, focus pads, and/or partner drills. Participants should know TKO drills before participating in ADV class.

Boot Camp - Running, roping, jumping, sit ups, push ups, drills...non-stop calisthenics to push you past your perceived limits and max out your potential! Men & women alike will be challenged. A variety of equipment, including the step, may be used in some drills.

Hi - Lo - Instructors will assess participants' needs and design a combination class including a 30 minute Cardiovascular - Calorie Burning Class Description (or I3) and a 30 minute Sculpt/Tone Resistance and Weight Training Class Description (or "Ab"tastic).

Boxing - Contact drills with focus pads, heavy bags, and partners. Hand and foot combinations designed to promote agility, endurance and coordination while providing a high impact routine sure to wind even the most well-conditioned male and female members. Must sign-up at the front desk - $3 additional fee required at time of sign-up.

Sculpt/Tone Resistance and Weight Training Class Descriptions


"Ball"istic - Trust the instructors to use the stability ball and/or mini ball to provide you with a low impact workout designed to increase endurance, improve balance and functional (daily/routine) movement, and challenge your flexibility - all while strengthening your core. (NO STEP)

Gunz&Bunz - This toning hour will use a variety of equipment (step for toning purposes only), to strengthen, define, and chisel your arms, shoulders, abs, glutes, hamstrings, calves, and everything in between.

Strength & Serenity - This relaxing class lengthens and strengthens your mind, body and spirit. A full body stretch with modifications for yoga poses and pilates-based conditioning. Great for enhancing flexibility and balance! May incorporate optional use of light resistance equipment.

Yoga - Traditional yoga poses and series for all levels. Development of breathing techniques to assist in form, flexibility, strength and health.

Pilates - Emphasis will be placed on breathing and slow, accurate pilates technique. All of your muscles will be elongated and strengthened.

More or Less than 60 Minute Class Descriptions


Impact, Intensity & Interval ( I-3 ) - Bursts of I2 with brief low impact interval training segments to boost the metabolism and work up a sweat! "Don't have time" is no longer an excuse! 30 minutes.

Flirt - For women only. Learn to appreciate your curves! Build confidence, endurance & strength - have fun, laugh & appreciate being a woman! 30 minutes.

"Ab"tastic - 15 minutes of lower abdominals, upper abdominals, obliques, abs, guts, fluff...whatever you call it, we'll stretch it, tone it, strengthen it! ALL gym members are encouraged to complement their cardiovascular and weight training routines with these 15 minute segments. Join us!!!

ALL of the above Cardiovascular-Calorie Burning Class Descriptions - some are specified as 45 minute routines complemented by 15 minutes of "Ab"tastic. We encourage additional members to join any of these classes for the "Ab"tastic segment - please warm up/stretch on your own.

Gloversville

The Fit Happens Personal Training and Fitness Studio has been at its location at 39 Arterial Plaza for more than a year. It began business in October 2002 at its previous location on Rte. 30A in Johnstown. Owner Mike Barker said the booming business is built on a friendly, judgment free atmosphere. New and exciting changes will be seen starting in February.
Fit Happens has something for everyone. "There's a little bit of everything here." Barker said. "There are four different workout areas as well as aerobics and spinning classes. Everyone can find something to fit their taste."

The first area of the four workout areas is the general gym that can accommodate a member of any age or physical condition. There are pin setting machines, free weights and dumbbells. This equipment can be used to perform a variety of work outs from body building to muscle toning and maintaining good health.

There is also a 15-piece circuit area. This part of the gym contains all pin setting machines which can be used for a complete total body workout. There is a stretching area used for warm ups, cool downs or abdominal work.

A third area of the gym boasts a world class cardio theater filled with treadmills, ellipticals, bikes and other cardiovascular equipment. The main attraction of the Cardio Theater is the 16 x 10 foot, larger than life, big screen TV complete with Dolby Digital surround sound for the members' viewing and listening pleasure while they work out.

A "Women Only" room is the fourth section of the gym. This area is completely for women. Barker said this room is almost as large as the old Johnstown facility. The women's area is a complete gym by itself and offers pin setting machines, free weights and dumbbells. "For the women that want to step it up from the hydraulic-type 30-minute workout programs, this is the place to be," Barker said. Fit Happens is the only gym in the upstate area that includes a room for women only. Women members appreciate this addition to the Gloversville location.

In addition to the four different workout areas, Fit Happens also has a half basketball court, with an area for badminton and pickle ball. There are 150 aerobics classes which include yoga, Pilates, Tai-Chi and weight training classes designed for sculpting and toning. There are also Impact, Intensity and Interval classes and 15-minute abdominal workout classes. J-Ride Spinning has its own room and offers between 40 to 55 classes per month. The spinning classes have special lighting and upbeat music which enhance this motivating workout. "An experience that shouldn't be missed," Barker noted. Fit Happens' affordable cost and variable schedule make it an attractive option for families or individuals. It is open Monday through Thursday from 5 a.m.- 11p.m; Friday from 5 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Saturday from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Sunday 7am - 2pm. "With the hours we are open, you can't say there's not time to work out," Barker barked. "It's less than a dollar a day to be a member at Fit Happens."
